Excellent Value

"I got my pack in today and the first thing I did was inspect it from top to bottom. Everything seems to be well made, well stiched, and very durable. It has alot of pockets, extra tie downs for add on's, and the waist/shoulder straps seem to be well padded.

It did not specify in the description, but it does have a place to put a water bladder with an exit hole for the tube.

As in other reviews one complaint was stiff zippers, but I found the zippers to open easily, they are large zippers with cord attached, the only difficulty I had was with the zipper on the bottom section and it wasn't the zipper that caused the problem, but the flap that covered it, however I found this to be a problem on all of the packs I have looked at.

I looked at alot of packs at many different stores. Prior to finding this pack, I was about to spend $180 for one the same size, it did carry a life time warranty, however no more than I paid for this pack, I can afford to replace it if it gets damaged beyond repair.

I originally gave this pack a good review, however I used my pack for the first time this past weekend and the quality of this pack is horrible...on the very first day of the hike a zipper broke, and the belt fastener of the waist band broke. On the second day i was securing my sleeping bag and the strap broke, so i had to finish my hike without a waist strap and i had to tie my sleeping bag onto my pack. I am currently trying to find out how to contact the company so i can see about getting my money back."

Surprisingly, worth more than I paid !!!

Worth more than I paid, (don't tell the manufacturer) - I am a big guy at 6"1" 250lbs. This pack adjusted to fit me just right. The straps are all double stitched, the fabric is of a good quality, and all potential weak points are reinforced. I didn't expect much in the way of quality or features based on its price, but once it arrived I was very impressed. So much so that I called a buddy of mine who is also a Scout leader and he purchased one that day. We both used them last weekend. My buddy is approximately 5' 10" 180 lbs and the pack adjusted to fit him just fine. Once adjusted properly, you hardly notice the 40-50lbs on your back that is because it transfers the weight to your hips. This is a perfect pack for all normal Scout outings. I cannot tell the difference between this and a $150+ pack that you can buy at REI. Maybe it weights ½ lb more? The only drawback I can see is that it does not have a built in rain cover. But for the price and weight I will carry a tarp that I can serve a dual purpose and can be placed under my tent.

Great Bag

"I was a little skeptical becuase of how inexpensive it was (compared to other bags that seemed to be just like it), but I lugged it around Europe for 3 weeks and it worked great. Someone else mentioned the zippers were a little hard to zip, and they are, but I found that to be a very minor flaw. My traveling companion also got the same bag and liked his, too."

So easy to use.. a 11 year old can even use it!

I researched over and over for a camping backpack for my new Scout. After reading all of the reviews and saw the price, I decided to get it for my son. WOW!!!! This thing is AMAZING!! The zippers are a "tad" stiff but he could open and close them fine. The space is so much more then I thought, upon first looking at it. After being packed for a 4 day campout, I just know I must have forgotten something because there is still room for more! Tent, sleeping bag, clothing, toiletries, food, shoes, books, lanterns, and even water... it all fit! I never thought I would find something SO good at such a fantastic price!!!

Great Internal Frame pack

This is a very good deal. I looked at packs for almost a month before resting on this one. Tough construction and rain resistant, I've had no problems in my last four backpacks. All straps are adjustable and comfortable. I gave this five stars because the price is so extremely cheap for a great pack.

Great value in a pack

Bought for an overseas trip, and was favorably impressed with the quality and accessibility. They ship with an initial charge and then by pound, so shop their store if you may need something else from this vendor. I bought two packs, and the second shipped for a relatively small additional charge (and promptly processed and shipped). Couldn't be happier with the pack.

Great for weekends

I took my first hiking trip this spring. I purchased this bag because of its low cost and good ratings. The bag held everything that I needed, but didn't carry the weight well. After about 2 days the bottom strap broke... while I was on the top of one of the trails in the Smokies. I think the build of this bag is great other than that and it kept everything dry in the rain. If I wasn't by myself and carrying everything on my own, it would have handled the wight and load just fine. If you need a good weekend bag, this one will be great!

Great in Africa!

Great backpack! I went on a 2 week mission trip to Togo, Africa and pretty much lived out of this bag and nothing more for the entire time. For a trip that long I would have liked just a tiny bit more space, but it served me well. I did end up buying a compression pack (recommended) to be able to fit lots of clothes and a sleeping bag and take up less room than normal.

I never had to wear the bag for more than maybe 30 minutes tops at a time in the airports, but it never felt uncomfortable as long as I used the waist and chest straps.

Anyway, this is recommended, especially for the price, about $35 when I got it! Do keep in mind that shipping is around $30 for this, and it's not on Amazon Prime. So I ended up paying roughly double the cost, but I have friends who payed that much for their backpacks and I felt like this was a better bag anyway.

Solid, with some flaws...

I bought this backpack for a two day hike in the Superstition Mountains (Arizona). I was very pleased with the product but couldn't help but be annoyed with some of its features.

The Good:

It's HUGE! I was able to fit my share of the equipment and my sleeping bag INSIDE the backpack (and my sleeping bag is fairly large).

It's comfortable. Obviously lugging 50+ pounds up a mountain is hard, but this pack certainly helps out. A layer of padding is put in front of the frame to make it more comfortable on your back. The waist strap is also padded (make sure that strap is pulled tight!)

The Bad:

It has one large compartment, and four very small ones. Much of your gear will be thrown into one large space, making it difficult to retrieve a single item (unless it's on top).

The aforementioned main compartment does not have a zipper. It has a drawstring that will partially conceal the inside, and then the "flap" folds over the top. The flap has an elastic edge that stretches around the pack. The only problem is that unless the pack is stuffed full the elastic has nothing to stretch over, which leaves the inside unprotected. The top flap then buckles to the body of the pack.

The zippers are hard to open.

All in all, a good pack, especially for such a good price. I'm sure you could get a better product, but only if you're willing to fork over a lot more money.

Good Beginner Pack

This pack was purchased as a beginner pack. I chose this one due to the features and low price. I was some what skeptical about what to expect. Once it arrived I was surprised as to the quality of the pack, very sturdy and plenty of storage. This pack does have a sleeve for a water bladder, but did not come with a rain cover. Hey for this price what do you expect? It closed up very tightly and is made of water resistant material, so I do believe that, unless you are caught in a down poor, your gear will remain dry.

My only complaint is that during my first outing with this pack the buckle for the waist belt broke. Just to be honest I was pretty rough with it, and after contacting the manufacturer they sent me a replacement right away. I would recommend this pack to anyone from the beginner such as myself or to a more experienced hiker looking for a good cheap pack.

cheap equipment is what it is

For just over 50 bucks, delivered, this backpack served the purpose on my recent backcountry adventure. It held together, had enough volume, enough pockets and enough adjustments to do the trick. Compared to the $300 pack I usually carry, there was no contest. However, this was a backup pack for a friend and I was not embarrassed. For moderate use, this pack is a great deal. I'm not sorry I bought it.

You Get What You Pay For And It's The Best For The Money

I'll start with a downer. The shipping was alot. BUT I ordered it on Nov. 1, 2010 and had it in hand by Nov. 5. Kudos to Adventurer's and UPS!

As this title says, you get what you pay for. This pack (with shipping) is well under $100 USD. It's not the lightest, the zippers are tough to close, and there are features that I'm sure that I don't even know of as a first timer that this bag doesn't have.

However, on Nov. 6, me and my bag were out in Hercules Glades park (MO) with plenty of gear and ready for camping with my son's Boy Scout Troop! The zippers were tight but sturdy. The material held up well and the design was such that with a bit of thinking about organization you could have a great camp!

The three outer pockets around the bag are truely external pockets and therefore putting stuff in them doesn't take capacity from the main compartment. The lower isolated pocket labelled for holding a sleeping bag I find great for a tent. The top pocket is spacious and sufficent for things you need quick access to. Lastly, there is a bungie cord system on top of the top pocket that I find is great for holding a rain poncho and extra socks (quick, immediate access).

I simply don't know of other features that could be added that would make this more worth it's price, especially when you add to the discussion the fact that the pack is hydration system ready.

Again for a first timer, a great purchase I'm sure. I will be looking to Cuscus for upgrades to my son's and girl scout daughter's systems!

Bring Spare Parts!

One mile into my first trip with this pack, the clasp on the hip belt broke. Fortunately, my hiking buddy had a spare on him and I was able to replace it. Other than this, the pack performed well. It's a good price, but I recommend keeping spare parts on hand.

Just ok, great for beginners, not for avid hikers

I took this on a 75 mile loop through the BWCA. So I was canoeing, hiking & portaging. I really put this pack to use. I found the shoulder straps, and waist straps to be uncomfortable after awhile. I placed extra shirts under the straps for extra padding. They rubbed my shoulders almost raw towards the end of my trip. During the trip I had busted a zipper, and after the trip I noticed that rips/holes were forming on the side pockets at at the very bottom wear I had threw my pack down after long portages and what not. I don;t treat my camping gear with too much care, because after all its camp equipment. Its meant to be rugged and withstand that abuse. After long exhausting hikes, the last thing I think about is putting my pack down gently.

There is a ton of room in this thing. You can fit a weeks and weeks worth of gear into it. But the more weight the more your shoulders will suffer from the so so straps. It can be adjusted a lot which is nice. Once one adjustment got unbearable you could adjust slightly to relieve some of the pain. This was a continuous cycle.

It got wet a bunch during the trip. It dry's somewhat fast when empty and if there's a nice breeze. Once wet its heavy! The material used absorbs the water and holds it until you do something about it.

Good pack though, if your a beginner and don't plan on huge adventures in rugged terrain then this pack is great! I would recommend this pack for mild explorers!!!

Cheers!

good price but has issues

some of the zippers broke after only a few days of use. Thankfully it held all my clothes for the 3 weeks in Europe. The zippers can be difficult to use as well. But hard to argue with the price.

Backpack

The strap broke, but otherwise a great bag to travel with. I could pack so much in it. I got a bit heavy though for me, I would recommend to people who choose to fill it all the way to be very strong.

Good Backpack, has a lot of uses.

Overall, this isn't a bad backpack. I've used it on the trail and as luggage for short trips. But it does have it's problems. First of all, the one velcro tab holding the internal bars in was sewn on backwards. Therefore not ever attaching to the tab inside the bag so the bar is sliding all over. One of the chest straps broke. The chest straps are also too short and I had a hard time adjusting them. The zippers are hard to zip. It has good heavy duty zippers but zips hard. The bag has lots of room for your gear or clothes. Good sturdy bag for the trail. A little bulky and heavy though. But honestly for about $40 a very good value. I hope the problems with my bag are just a rarity. The stitching seem to be carelessly done. My son has a smaller bag and he doesn't have any problems.

maybe I got a lemon?

The very trip out the water bladder fell through the bottom of the pocket. It wasn't stitched very well. After 4 e-mails and pictures included they agreed to take it back for replacement or give me 10 dollars credit. Like it would be possible to have someone fix it for 10 dollars. Other than the above problem it packed nicely, carried nicely and the outside seems very durable.

Unless you like pain, spend more money and buy a better pack.

The pack sags, and is extremely difficult to balance. On short hikes I barely notice, but after 7 or so miles my right shoulder and lower back start to ache. Ive spent entirely too much time trying to adjust the pack. There are no straps on the lower sides for adjustment, so you're left with the shoulder straps as one of the only means to adjust the pack. The only other way it adjusts is that the shoulder straps are removable, and can be raised or lowered depending on your preference and/or torso size. But this seems to be entirely for show as moving the straps doesn't seem to help.

Worst of all is that after about 7 miles I noticed my hands were swollen, which is an indication that the straps are cutting off circulation to my arms and hands, which is very uncomfortable, scary, and dangerous.

Other then that the pack is huge so should easily fit your gear. My sleeping bag fit easily in the compartment. My hydration pack fit easily into its compartment. The outside pockets are also very large and are great for packing your food, navigation, first-aid, and other equipment you want in easy reach. As others have mentioned however, the zippers are very stiff, and the buckle on the main belt has a tendency to pop out (I carried a spare just in case).

Overall I would say that if you plan on using this pack for short overnighters then it would work fine. But if you think you can take this pack on extended back country backpacks then you are mistaken. I would advise spending more money to get a better pack. This pack is a good price for people on a tight budget like me, but trust me, you get what you pay for.

The stitching shouldn't pop on the first flight

This pack has thick fabric and looks tough. But looks can be deceiving. The stitching along the back inside walls popped when I used it as checked baggage on a two-hop flight.

The popped seams are visible from the outside. When I looked inside, I found that the reinforcement tape over the seams was not properly aligned, and one of the two rows of stitches was not on the reinforcement tape. So one row of fairly weak thread is all that is holding these two seams together. The whole back wall could come open if they fail.

There are lots of roomy pockets. But all the pockets have only one zipper pull. This means that if the zipper fails, the pockets will be useless. It also mean there is not one pocket that can be locked on the pack.

Beyond that, the design is good, and the pack is reasonably comfortable. But if you are doing any serious hiking or traveling, equipment failure could spell disaster.

This pack is good for light use, lightly packed for short trips or hikes. If you are going to use it for anything else, inspect the seams closely on arrival, and test it out with a full load before venturing out.

torn at first sight

I ordered this bag, excited about the size capacity and features (sleeping compartment, etc), and thought it was a great deal for the money. However, the item arrived ( in perfect packaging), and it was ALREADY TORN ON THE INSIDE. If a bag is unused and already torn, how well do you think it will hold up on a mountain??

Worst of all, I contacted amazon customer service, and at first, they would not even agree to replace the bag!! After much haggling, they finally agreed to supply another comparable alternative. (Although my hopes are not much higher).

No zippers

The large compartment does not have a zipper. If going abroad, this bag has to be checked on the plane, leaving all your stuff unprotected. Buy it only if you plan not to fly with it.

Major Zipper Design Problem

I read the reviews for this pack and thought how bad could the zippers be. I was just too enticed by the cheap price. WARNING! Do not buy this bag. The poor zipper design make this pack nearly impossible to use.

ADVENTURER'S BAG canceled order

I placed an expedited delivery ($27.74 for shipping) order on 2/26 an dared to ask for the status on on 3/1. I got a response from Adventurer's Bag stating that "According to amazon.com, it instructs us to ship out your order on March 2, 2009." and today (3/2) I received an e-mail from Amazon that my order has been canceled. As a long term Amazon customer I am truly disappointed that Amazon allows companies like Adventurer's Bag to do business through Amazon.
